New Orleans, Louisiana to Denver, Colorado
The final day of our bootcamp involved a tour around the city by community developer Michael Robinson, a friend and former colleague of Sandy and Scott. Michael provided us with an in-depth understanding of the educational, housing, and economic situations that are changing the neighborhoods in New Orleans. This tour brought us into the present-day social justice issues that the apprentices will continue to discuss during their time at iSSACHAR.
Following our tour we ate at Cafe Reconcile, a restaurant that provides job training for at-risk youth. We ate delicious food and got to meet the wonderful staff. We then headed back to Urban Impact to spend our final hours together discussing a Kairos moment that we had while on the trip. Each apprentice shared a moment from the trip where they felt God speaking to them or directing their attention to a certain thought or idea. During their time as apprentices they will learn more about Kairos moments, how to reflect and act on them, during their spiritual formation training.
As we boarded our plane for Denver our hearts were full of gratitude for, what felt like, a truly scared journey God invited us on. We look forward to inviting our community in Denver into the experiences we had at the Apprentice Commissioning service on Tuesday, August 21st at 7pm at Lowery Community Christian Church, 855 Yosemite St, Denver, 80230.
