Day 5
Atlanta, Georgia to New Orleans, Louisiana
On Day 5 we spent the morning at The Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change in Atlanta. This center is next to the father of Dr. King Sr.’s church that he pastored and the home where he raised his family. The Center provided a time to reflect on Dr. King Jr.’s legacy and work that we had been learning about over the past few days.
We ended our time in Atlanta and headed to the airport for our final stop, New Orleans! This city is a special place for Sandy, Scott and Melanie as it was here that they met each other and worked with an organization called Urban Impact located in the third ward in the city of New Orleans.
As soon as we arrived, Scott took us to the Mississippi River to show help us understand the bodies of water that surround New Orleans, as well as how the levies work to pump water away from the city.
Urban Impact hosted us for the night and we enjoyed a worship service with some of their staff and a meal in the city.
